Greater Michigan Construction Academy collaborates with Midland County Schools to begin high school skilled trades program

A new joint venture between Midland County Schools and The Greater Michigan Construction Academy (GMCA) begins this school year, with the goal of providing interested district students an early start on apprenticeships into skilled trades. A total of 12 juniors from the district's high schools will make up the inaugural class of the GMCA Construction Pre-Apprenticeship Program, according to Jimmy Greene, the CEO for The Greater Michigan Construction Academy.

Local Construction Trade students to compete at National Competition

Midland, Michigan, February 2014 – Greater Michigan Construction Academy (GMCA) is pleased to announce the winners of
their Local Craft Championship. Competitors in the championship were required to complete a one hour written exam and a three hour project performance test.

Students to compete in Construction Trade competition at local training center

Greater Michigan Construction Academy (GMCA) will be holding its 2014 local craft competition on Saturday January 25th. 

Competitors will complete a one hour written exam and a three hour project performance test. The competitors are judged in areas critical to the success of any construction trade project: safety, quality of workmanship; layout of project, use of materials, assembly of
components, sequence of project, ability to follow instructions, ability to complete in a timely manner, and accuracy. 

Second group of youth to complete Construction Trades Intro program

Greater Michigan Construction Academy (GMCA) along with Community Construct, The ROCK Youth Center and area businesses is celebrating the completion of the second group of area high school students through their Jump Start program to introduce high school students to careers in construction.

Construction trades training begins at Saginaw’s First Ward

Greater Michigan Construction Academy (GMCA) is taking skilled trades training to Saginaw’s First Ward Community Services.  The 6-8 week course begins on October 15, 2013 and meets Tuesday – Thursday from 4-7 pm. Students will be trained in the NCCER Core Curriculum learning basic knowledge in construction and safety. The Core class is a pre-requisite for any student seeking certification in one of the 11 trades offered at GMCA.
