Associated Builders and Contractors – Greater Michigan Chapter (ABC/GMC) is pleased to announce the date for its 2014 fundraiser event! ABC/GMC invites you to join them on May 2, 2014 for the 29th annual dinner/dance event.
ABC/GMC has been coordinating the annual dinner/dance event for the past 28 years raising a total of over $486,000 allowing wishes to be granted to over 90 area children.
As part of the Make-A-Wish of Michigan family, ABC/GMC was contacted in regards to a wish that aligned with them perfectly for a 5 year old boy in Southern Michigan. On December 5th, ABC staff member, Bhavi Patel and volunteer, Erick Forshee of Fisher Companies traveled to the boys home to make his wish come true.
Damian is a boy who was born addicted to Cocaine and has had severe neurological issues since birth. Because he cannot speak his adopted mother was put to the task of coming up with something that would bring joy to Damian’s life. It was determined that because of his love of Mickey Mouse, the perfect gift would be a bedroom make over. New furniture and Mickey Mouse bedding and decorations were purchased and presented during the December 5th visit. Erick Forshee assembled the new bunk bed, mounted a tv on the wall for him to have a perfect viewing spot for his favorite cartoons, and even secured his new dresser to the wall to prevent any accidents.
“It was a true honor to be a part of granting this wish for little Damian.”, said Bhavi Patel, ABC Greater Michigan Chapter. “He was just the sweetest boy and listening to his mom tell his story and getting to see the smile on his face was one of the best experiences I could imagine.”
The 2014 dinner/dance benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan will be held, Friday May 2, 2014 at The Great Hall in Midland starting at 6 pm. Funds raised from this event will be used to sponsor wishes of children in the Great Lakes Bay Region who are bravely facing their health challenges.
Entertainment will be provided by the areas popular band The Sinclairs. Guests will also enjoy participating in a raffle and silent auction. Past wish recipient families will also be in attendance as guest of ABC bringing the process full-circle as they help celebrate what Make-A-Wish has done for them and their loved ones.
Join us, get involved! Together this community will make our upcoming event memorable and provide “Wishes” for some very special and courageous children.
